For our 2010 Walk, there will be two T-shirt options for the Out of the Darkness Community Walk. The first is the AFSP T-Shirt which has the Walk logo on the front and the listing of the sponsors on the back. This T-Shirt is a gift when you’ve raised $150 or more to donate to AFSP. There is no need to register for this as you can pick it up when you sign-in at the Walk.
There is another T-Shirt option – one designed just for our Walk. We’re excited about the beautiful crane graphics on it. This one must be ordered and paid for in advance of the Walk and is picked up that morning when you sign-in. It can be ordered now -- see form below.
Susan Romero; a graphic designer, created these beautiful graphics incorporating the crane character. The crane has been chosen to represent our S.O.S. Out of the Darkness Walk as it, over the centuries, has become a symbol of healing, happiness and hope. In Japan people believed this ancient bird lived for a 1,000 years. Legend has it that, if you fold 1000 paper cranes, your prayers will be answered . Members of he S.O.S. Group have folded this many with our prayers for peace - - not only for those who presently suffer from depression but also for those who have died by suicide. These cranes will be strung together to form a curtain to mark the starting point of the Walk. (For more about the crane, see the Page “Legend of the Crane.”)
Each year our crane T-shirt has a different color scheme. The 2010 T-shirt is based on red, white, and blue since our Walk is on 9/11. We’ve chosen these patriotic colors as a way to recognize this meaningful date to our nation.
